What's included in a sauna kit

Every DreamSauna kit ships with everything needed to build the room — you bring the space and the electrical hookup, we supply the rest.

Cedar interior package

Clear-grade Western Red Cedar — vertical grain, kiln-dried to 8% moisture. Includes wall planks, ceiling planks, bench slats, and trim. Selected for tight grain and natural rot resistance. Cedar is the traditional banya wood: it stays cool to the touch, releases a light aroma when heated, and resists warping in high-humidity environments.

Bench framing & hardware

Pressure-treated bench framing, stainless steel screws, and aluminum bench supports designed for assembly without visible fasteners. Upper and lower bench levels included. Benches are the structural heart of a sauna — our framing system supports 400+ lb loads and allows airflow underneath for even heating.

Vapor barrier & insulation

Foil-faced vapor barrier (reflective, non-breathable), high-temperature foil tape, and R-12 mineral wool batt insulation. The vapor barrier is critical — it reflects radiant heat back into the room and prevents moisture from reaching the wall cavity. We include enough material for the full room envelope: walls, ceiling, and behind the heater.

Floor & drainage

Cedar duckboard floor slats (removable for cleaning), plastic pedestal feet, and a pre-sloped floor membrane. For rooms with a floor drain, we include a stainless steel drain cover. The duckboard system lets water drain through gaps between slats, keeping the walking surface dry and comfortable.

Heater & stones

The heater is matched to your room volume. Each unit ships with 80–100 kg of sauna stones (per heater; 200 kg for dual configurations). Stones are dense peridotite — they hold heat without cracking under repeated water pouring. The heater includes a wooden safety guard, internal stone compartment, and water-protected heating elements.

Control panel & wiring

Wall-mounted digital controller with built-in timer and thermostat. Internal sauna sensor probe. We supply the wiring harness, junction box, and high-temperature cable rated for sauna environments. Controller options include Wi-Fi-enabled units for remote scheduling from a phone.

Custom sauna door

Tempered safety-glass sauna door — 8 mm thick, pre-hung in a cedar frame. Choose from clear, bronze, or frosted glass. Right or left hinge. Magnetic closure and cedar door stop included. Our doors are custom-made to your opening dimensions — no standard sizes that almost fit.

Assembly instructions

Step-by-step illustrated assembly guide — from framing the walls to installing the last cedar plank. Includes material list, cutting diagram, electrical connection diagram, and heater installation guide. Available in English and Russian. Our team is available by phone throughout your build — we've helped hundreds of homeowners and contractors assemble saunas since 1970.

Warranty & support

Every kit includes a written warranty certificate for the heater (elements and controls) and structural components. We supply, not install — but we support you through the entire process. Call our Toronto factory at 1-877-261-5050 with any question, from sizing to wiring to cedar grading. We've been doing this for over 50 years.

Product range

Nine product categories

From the heater to the last cedar plank — everything we make, in one overview.

Electric sauna heaters

Proprietary banya heaters — 4, 6, 8 kW and dual 12/16 kW. Water-protected elements, 80–100 kg of stones. Made in Toronto since 1970. Sized to your room volume in cubic feet. Our heaters pour water directly on stones for real Russian banya steam — not just dry heat.

Infrared sauna heaters

Ceramic and carbon-fiber infrared panels — available since 2001. Surface-mounted or recessed into cedar walls. Lower operating temperature (50–60°C) for gentle, radiant heat. Ideal for therapy, relaxation, or combining with conventional heaters for a 3-in-1 combo sauna experience.

Combo sauna / banya

3-in-1 rooms combining conventional electric banya heater, infrared panels, and wood-fired capability in one space. Switch between dry sauna (90°C), infrared therapy (55°C), or traditional wet banya with venik — all in the same room. The most versatile setup we build.

Custom sauna doors

8 mm tempered safety glass doors, custom-made to your opening. Clear, bronze, or frosted glass. Cedar frame, magnetic closure, right or left hinge. We build to your exact dimensions — not standard sizes. Every door includes pre-hung frame, hinges, handle, and cedar door stop.

Controllers

Digital and Wi-Fi controllers — set temperature, schedule sessions, and monitor your sauna from inside the room or from your phone. Compatible with all DreamSauna heaters. Options include programmable weekly schedules, delayed start, and overheat protection with auto-shutoff.

Accessories

Sauna stones (peridotite, 80–100 kg per heater), cedar buckets and ladles, headrests and backrests, thermometers and hygrometers, lighting (cedar-shaded LED and fiber-optic), and ventilation grilles. Everything that turns a hot room into a proper banya ritual.

Construction elements

Vapor barriers, foil-faced insulation, cedar planks (wall, ceiling, bench), bench framing, duckboard flooring, trim, and fasteners. The full material package to build a sauna room from studs to finish. All components are sauna-rated — high-temperature, moisture-resistant, and code-compliant.

Movable & outdoor saunas

Prefabricated movable sauna cabins — delivered fully assembled to your backyard or cottage. Also custom outdoor sauna builds with foundation, framing, roof, and cladding. Our movable saunas are trailer-transportable and can be placed on any level surface with a standard electrical connection.

3D sauna designer

Design your sauna in 3D — pick dimensions, heater type, bench layout, door position, and wood species. The tool generates a material list and 3D preview. Available free online. Build your sauna room virtually before ordering a single cedar plank.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you install the sauna, or just supply the materials?

We supply — we don't install. Every kit comes with detailed assembly instructions, and our team supports you by phone throughout the build. Many of our customers are homeowners building their first sauna, and many work with a contractor. We've helped both succeed since 1970.

Can I pour water on the stones?

Yes — that's the whole point of a banya heater. Our electric heaters have water-protected elements designed for direct water pouring on stones. This creates the authentic Russian banya steam (called "par" or light steam) that dry electric sauna heaters can't produce. Pour a ladle of water on the hot stones and the room fills with fine, soft steam within seconds.

How do I know what size heater I need?

Sizing is based on room volume in cubic feet, not floor area. Measure length × width × height of your sauna room interior. A 4 kW heater suits rooms up to ~240 cu.ft, a 6 kW suits up to ~340 cu.ft, and an 8 kW suits up to ~440 cu.ft. For larger rooms, we combine two heaters (dual 12 or 16 kW). Glass walls and exterior walls need extra capacity — we factor that in when you call.

What kind of wood is used in a sauna?

Clear-grade Western Red Cedar for walls, ceiling, benches, and trim. Cedar is the traditional banya wood because it stays cool to the touch even at 90°C, resists moisture and rot, releases a natural aromatic oil when heated, and won't splinter. We avoid pine, spruce, and other softwoods — they can ooze sap at sauna temperatures and don't resist moisture as well. Aspen is available as an alternative bench material for those who prefer a lighter color.

How long does it take to build a sauna from a kit?

A typical 5×7 ft home sauna takes 2–3 days for two people with basic carpentry skills. Framing and insulation on day one, cedar planking and benches on day two, heater installation and door on day three. Our assembly guide walks through every step, and we're available by phone. For contractors, it's a one-day job.

Do you ship outside Ontario?

Our primary service area is Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area. We do ship heaters, doors, and accessory packages across Canada via freight. Full cedar kits are shipped within Ontario and Quebec due to shipping volume. Call us at 1-877-261-5050 to discuss your location.

What's the warranty?

Heaters carry a warranty certificate covering heating elements and controls. Structural components (cedar, framing, hardware) are covered against manufacturing defects. Warranty details ship with your kit. We've been building sauna heaters in Toronto since 1970 — we stand behind what we make.
