Why vertical matters
The cladding rule we never break
Interior wall boards in a sauna or banya must run vertically, never horizontally. Vertical cladding creates a continuous path for micro-drainage — condensation runs down the grooves instead of sitting in the joints.
Horizontal cladding traps moisture behind and between the boards, and that trapped moisture is what causes the black mold spots you sometimes see in poorly built saunas. We build with vertical cladding as standard, on every room.
